Mr Potato, Newtown: A New Addition to the Food Scene

Mr Potato, the popular loaded potato fast food chain, has just opened at 159 King St in Newtown, Sydney. The South Australian chain has been making waves since its launch in Adelaide in December 2018. The brainchild of model Jess Davis and her partner Tyson Hoffmann, Mr Potato has quickly become a go-to spot for those looking for a quick and delicious bite.

Mr Potato prides itself on using the best quality produce, including low carb white potatoes and golden sweet potatoes, to create their signature loaded potatoes. The menu features a variety of toppings, from classic options like bacon and cheese to more unique combinations like pulled pork and jalapeños. With a focus on providing tasty and satisfying meals, Mr Potato has quickly gained a loyal following.

The entire menu is also 100% gluten-free.

With the opening of its Newtown location, Mr Potato is continuing its expansion across Australia. So far, there are 8 stores located in SA, QLD, WA and now in Newtown, NSW. Australia. There are 10 more stores that are coming soon also in those States.

Menu ordering process

Mr Potato offers a range of delicious and healthy potato and sweet potato based dishes. The menu includes a variety of options to suit different dietary requirements and preferences.

Ordering is a simple 5 Step process:

Step 1: Pick your base – the IQ spud (25% less carbs than the average white potato and more potassium than a banana) or Sweet Potato ($1 extra) or add salad (50c).

Step 2: Pick your size. Options are Snack, Regular or Original.

Step 3: Pick your butter. Options are Regular, Garlic and chilli, Vegan or Vegan garlic and chilli.

Step 4: Load it up. You can choose between their Pre-loaded Meat menu choices, the Pre-loaded Vegan menu, or Load your own by selecting your own protein, cheese, and toppings.

Step 5: Load your flavour. There are a range of sauces to choose from including Truffle mayo, Sriracha, Chipotle and Garlic aioli.

You can also order a side of the Mr Potato secret recipe potato salad as well.

Drinks

Mr Potato offers a range of refreshing drinks including organic cold pressed juices, Remedy kombuchas, a range of soft and bottled water.

What we ordered on our first visit

We ordered two snack size pre-loaded meat dishes. We went for the Mash Made in Heaven (Your choice of 2 proteins – I chose the beef ragu and chicken, kale, peas, corn, red onion, low-fat feta, truffle mayo) and The Po-Taco (beef taco mince, lettuce, corn, diced tomato, avocado, corn chips and chipotle).

Both were pretty tasty! Next time, I’ll try the sweet-potato base.
